Right Jess. Shaun sent me the pictures, and these are the ones of both of us. He didn't send me the one with our backs to the camera though :(
Any who I was thinking, we could have a play with these, like fonts and shizz for rusty mittens, post them back umm, choose y'know :)
also, I hate the last one. Feel free the draw all over that :) LOL

Photo shoot idea.

I was having a mooch on photographer Jason Christophers website, and I found these images, which I think is quite beaut. It got me thinking. I know we discussed maybe having a photo shoot for our collection in that derelict building, but what if we weren't so obvious and went for something that was quite a contrast, beautiful and free. Ahem, maybe even good ole Sutton Park. Omg I actually know the best little forest bit in there that would be amazing to take pictures in. Anyway it was just an idea:). But yeah what do you think? Am I thinking too far ahead again?

Hello Emily dear,

Emily, I was just watching the whiteboard development filming, and realised that for a A/W collection, we have quite short skirts and shorts and boobies showing and things, I mean some tie in really well, but maybe we should keep a look out for tights or long socks or something? Have a look and let me know what your thoughts are, because lots of bare thighs in an a/w collection might look a little odd?

Get back to me you boob. xx

Emily working hard.

The topstitch Queen! x

And to think...

On tuesday, we only had those white board drawings.

Now, on FRIDAY, we already have a jumper dress, a bodice, half a jumper, and the starts of a skirt. oh and a tank top :)

YAY!!!

Whiteboard Development.

Line up designs.

More designs, from Monday. I haven't obviously got yours in here yet, and haven't got the AMAZING piece because, well, it's kind of confusing and we need to sample it major. But yeah, thought I'd share. x

Have I got the colours right?

Thursday, 22 April 2010

Tonight..

Tonight, I'm going to try and sew the latex I have patchwork style, so I can get some more done tomorrow and leave it over the weekend for me to pick up ready next week.
Also, we said about doing some accessories, I haven't got much here, but I'll do some experimenting.

Tomorrow,
Finish patterns RTW 4
Finish grey chiffon skirt
Finish jersey long sleeved top
Finish bodice ( except lining! )

If not, we can take it home over the weekend :)

Woo! Feeling good!

Because I actually planned for once.

I did a plan for this week, which i think is very doable and got me really excited and this is what it is :)

Tuesday -
Pattern cut jumper dress and bodice (DONE!! :))

Wednesday -
Shop for materials
Make jumper dress (complete)
Start bodice
Finish of RTW patterns 1 + 4

Thursday -
Finish off RTW patterns for 1 +4 if not completed on wednesday
Start pattern cutting our own designs
Textiles - Sort out print, maybe even print 2 metres of fabric for skirt and bodice

Friday -
Start on RTW 1+4, mainly the long skirt, jersey top and long sleeve thing
If the print is done then finish the bodice and start on shorter skirt

OVER THE WEEKEND - Finish off garments and update sketchbook

By the end of the week ( or by next tuesday) we should have AT LEAST -
A rough idea of print
1 jumper dress
1 long chiffon skirt
1 long sleeve thing
1 jersey tank top

IF WE'RE LUCKY!! -
A printed skirt and bodice too..
:)

What do you think? Do you reckon that's doable cos I think it is :)

x

orr we can do tomorrow your way. that could work :)

I made a shopping list too lol. i have £44 roughly for stuff for tomorrow:)

The best day.

Right Emily, I'm just charging my camera so I can upload the images of the whiteboard and things. I'm going to try and design the whole collection tonight in neat.
I think if we can get the cardigan and maybe the RTW 1 almost done tomorrow, it would be amazing!! Because if you think about it, the cardigan is very basic, but the bodice cant be done until the print is, so if I make the skirt, and the top if I have time, THATS SERIOUS PROGRESS.
Although, I cant stay behind tomorrow, sorry. Do you think thats doable?

More posts soon x

Seriously, I think the comments hate me.

I dont have a scanner at my mums but i do at my dads which luckily for you, im going there tomorrow. but he doesnt have internet lol, so im gonna have to scan them and save them at my dads post them up on friday. sorry for the trouble. also im gonna have to use like a tenner out of that 50 for my portfolio to get it printeddd. sorry :(

Hello Emily dear,

Just a little note.

In response to your last post, how's Saturday for meeting up? I'm free all day, as far as I'm aware. If not, why not Monday? I'll be in Birmingham tomorrow, but thats pretty jammed already. What does your diary look like in response to that? Ha.

Also, please may I have your official drawn up final designs, so that I can whack them in the old sketchbook and talk about you? Front and back? I would use the ones below but the Photobooth isn't great quality of picture. Whenever you're ready, of course.

:)

I think that is all for now.

Love xx

My Final Designs, of the two in which are solely mine.

Updates soon.

Tuesday, 13 April 2010

grr it wont send my comments!

I think your dream may have just saved us.I think designing on the whiteboards is a good idea. I had a similar idea to this before but on paper, but got worried incase we started getting indecisive about what we wanted like " i think blah blah blah, but what do you think?" so i think if we do that then we're going to have to be sharp and get straight to the point about it. We can film the designs (which i forgot to do for my final designs SHIT) and then put them on the blog. development done! If we do the patterns first then we can play around with them too and see if it helps us with our designs. we may be able to use some pieces twice. Also i think that we should meet up sometime this week and look at materials. see what sort of stuff we want to use, it might help us with our final designs, to see what stuff we can do with the material. like cutting into leather, burning cottons.... those are just example. please i don't want to burn cotton. im bored of burning. i think that was pretty much everything i said in my last comment that didnt get sent:(x

What I sadly dream about.

I am liking to fact that I'm enjoying this project, however, I do not like it when I get woken up by myself at silly o'clock thinking about fabric problems! Arggh.

Anyway basically, I think we should get all the designs sorted after we make the patterns for these four. I say this because if we know how much of each fabric we need overall it's more likely to be more cost effective. Does that make sense? Because if we buy like two metres for these RTW pieces, and then have a quarter of it left and then it turns out we need 3 metres for the next then we're going to have left overs. I mean I think it would be foolish to get all the fabric straight away for all of the collection, but for most of it maybe. Penny for your thoughts?

I thought that we could (after we make the patterns for our own) steal the big white board and design BIG on that together, discuss it etc and then thats our whole development on that white board, which can go into our sketchbook, because I think if we design separately then discuss, discuss then design, we're going to run out of time.

What do you think? x

Facebook development. Ha.

Emily

what do you think of the designs?

15:56Jessica

looks really good.

I like the use of wood.

and how like structured it is.

which of the six do you reckon are most successful?

15:56Emily

ooo sweet

lemme have another look

you know the hands, are they gloves or attatched to the garment?

15:57Jessica

just gloves

15:58Emily

i like the 4th and the 6th

:)

15:58Jessica

EEeeeeekkk!

They are my faves

:)

15:58Emily

:D woop!

yeah i definatly think they work best

15:59Jessica

i'm gonna have to sort out that plaited rope thing though, make it neater like.

what colours and fabrics you thinking?

15:59Emily

in my head im picturing black and bluess

but that mustard is growing on me:/

i like the idea of use linens, maybe contrasting with leather

see what thta looks like, see if it works

16:00Jessica

I know yeah, I just scanned in the latex pic and played around it strangely goes well

yeahh thats cool

16:01Jessica

I did some designs with a misty blue and black the other day and they looked like really cheap i was like.. oh FFFFsssss. So I think we need to be careful with our choices of blues

16:02Emily

ahh right okay then

what if we keep to the colours youve got in your designs then

i like them alot:)

sort of black white and grey with hints of brown and mustrad

mustard*

gah i cant spell

16:03Jessica

yeah if you feel it could work. I mean we could still use blues, just have to be careful like. Would you be happy with working with those colours?

16:04Emily

yeah im happy with working with those

but im not sure if the blue would work with it

so we could either use those colours or try and make a similar palette with the blue

16:05Jessica

mmm, i would say that we could have a play around at college, but I was kind of hoping to get fabrics for when we get back.

Then again, we need patterns before so..

yeahh why dont we do that?

16:07Emily

play around at college?

16:08Jessica

yuurrp.

16:08Emily

yeah im cool with that:)

16:09Jessica

So first week back is pattern cutting yeah?

16:10Emily

it is:)

16:10Jessica

need to get another print sorted aswell. :/

16:11Emily

:/

lots of work!

YIPEE!

16:12Jessica

YAY

16:12Emily

are we going to get the shared designs done this week, or sort of do them as we make ours, pick up ideas like that?

:/

16:14Jessica

errm, im not sure. I think if we have definite aspects that we want to include then should discuss them and well write them down, and design on the side sort of thing, i dunno. What do you think?

16:15Emily

yeah i think we should discuss which elements from each others designs we want to use and put together, then design around them if that makes sense:/

16:16Jessica

yeeeah i agree

exciting stuff

16:16Emily

it is:D

anywho im off now

i will speak to you soon partner

:)

16:16Jessica

byebye partner! x

GAH!

WARNING: Please ignore the shitty drawings.
Okayy, I know our deadline was today:) I'm just redrawing my designs so its easier to tell what they are basically, cos I just jotted them down. LALALA heres the first one:) the top of the skirt and the bodice would be heavily boned. The top of the skirt would have panels of print and the arms lace up at the back restricting movement. Also wood would be placed at the front and back of the head to restrict movement and create feelings of unease.

Okaayyy, this one is just a sort of upgrade of the original one i wanted to use. The arms sort of bind the top of the arms to the body, like a shoulder corset, forcing the models arms into see through chiffon pockets in the trousers. print panels in the waistband on the trousers and the top heavily boned. Again it can be tweeeked to tie in more:)
Those are my designs lavly. unfortunatly not as technical as yours but yeah, i think you can see what im imagining :).

In response to your designs. I love them :). I think ours will definatly tie in together. As long as we keep materials similar and make sure the shared designs have elements from both of ours, the collection should fit. If it starts looking out of place we can still tweek them a bit, and just add small details to tie them together. IM VERY EXCITED!

love LOVE x

Designs. I couldn't choose just two.

Ok, so I'm designing and have come up with some (with the brilliant uses of photoshop). However, they are a little different to what I originally did, well more of developments off them. I know that you don't want our whole collection to be blackness and so I've played with more colours, and don't be scared about the mustard yellow.. thats meant to be latex (if when sampled it looks good enough, I thought we could wire it, and patchwork it, making it an uncomfortable new fabric which is kind to the eyes but rubbery in texture) If latex doesnt work I think it should maybe be a different print using touches of colour. Don't know.. I feel like I need your opinion so that I know whether you agree that these are good for our collection, because even though these are my two designs, they still need to link with yours in a way so...
I really like them, I think they look technical and in a way wearable ( even though a lot of the tops would be highly boned and unable to move around.) But tell me if you feel they wouldnt work.

Using quite natural materials such as rope, linen and string, next to harsh dylon image maker and latex textures.
Thoughts? I can't wait to see yours! Exciting!

And yes, I changed my template. :)

Not sure about the latex... ????

Ok, this is kind of what we've touched on

This is an article I found on Viceland again, basically it's about sexual desires and how some people find being tied up and kidnapped arousing. Also, the actual act of kidnapping and how in some cultures it is a way of life, which makes me sick. It's kind of what we've been touching on with bondage/tied up etc. Vice is messed up with some/most of this sexual history lark, people are wrong in parts.

“A girl is like a foal. She’s seen nothing in her life. Of course when she gets married she’ll cry and fight and resist. But when she’s broken and harnessed, she’ll become obedient like a good horse and then she’ll be happy,”

Gosh.

Documentary, fucking shocking.

Because these interest me maybe.

"London designer Sarah Lewis created her line of leather jewellery and accessories as a result, in part, of a shitty childhood watching various family members battling and dying of cancer. The holes and bumps in her designs are based on the way cancer eats at the body. Check the clothes out, they're pretty scary, though they don't look anything like Barbara Hershey in Beaches."

Final Designs

Jess! Since it is the holidays now and we want to get started on making the garments when we get back , I was thinking, that we could post our 2 final individual designs on here and other designs that we want to include in the 4 joint design, and then we can each use those designs to come up with more designs. If you get that?

Or we can just meet up with out two final individual designs (and samples) and then discuss what we want to do for the 4 other ones.

What do you think??

Vanity feeds insanity

Emily's entry for the Against fur campaign.
