Project Proposal

Dont know how good this is. I'm rusty rusty... almost like our mittens.

Section 1

Collaboration. After careful thought and consideration I have decided to team up with a fellow student for my final major project. Me and Emily, my partner, will be producing 8 or more outfits which go by the title of Restrictions. These outfits will be a combination of ready to wear and couture pieces for the catwalk, inspired by a variation of restrictions including torture, locks, keys, knots, phobias, and emotional restrictions. We intend to take what we have learnt over the last year and a half and push it further, for an exciting collection which pushes the boundaries of design, print and manipulation.

Section 2

As this project theme is quite broad it is important that we research intensively in primary, artist and secondary forms. We intend to photograph every restriction we see in everyday life, as well as visiting museums, especially in London, such as The Fashion and Textiles museum and The V&A. Books will help us discover more about our subject, as well as reliable websites.

Section 3

Over our time on the course we have picked up many techniques and processes, but for our final major project we shall be using them in ways that are innovative and experimental. We want to test techniques with other materials such as wood, metals or plastics, pushing those boundaries as much as possible, yet making it natural to the garment at hand. Me and Emily will be tracking our project weekly, however we aim to have most of the sketchbook done after approximately a month so that we can concentrate on toiling and creating the garments.

Section 4

As this is a collaborative piece, it is important that me and Emily are showing our own ideas in our separate sketchbook, however, we have agreed that it would be a good idea to work into each others sketchbook to analyse each others work, and then we can work on what the partner has commented. This will mean that we are constantly critically reviewing each other, meaning we achieve our best work. Also, we have a blog, in which we can use to share ideas outside of college hours, a constant communication. Every sample I produce and research I find will be noted with my thoughts so I can visually communicate to the reader and analyse my work which will end in an evaluation which will conclude the project.
