Section One:
For my FMP (Final Major Project), another classmate and I have decided to do a collaborative project together called RESTRICTIONS. Together we aim to complete an experimental and technically challenging collection that consists of at least eight garments, four of which will be made up of both Jessica's (my project partner) and my own ideas and the other four will be two garments soley my own ideas, and the other two soley Jesses designs. We will be prodcuing an Autumn/Winter womenswear collection for 2011/12 that will contain both ready-to-wear and couture pieces. We plan to challenge our pattern cutting skills and printing techniques as much as possible to produce an individual professional outcome.
Section two:
To influence our collecton, we will be researching into different types of restrictions that can be found. These may include barriers, locks, society's views, fears and pain. We will gather research by visiting exhibitions like the Medical Museum, The Sex Museum and the Wellcome Collection, photographing items and talking to people about restrictions that they might feel (particularly emotional). We will look at designers like Una Burke, Alexander McQueen, Martina Salzberger, Paddy Hartley and Louise Goldins.
Section three:
As well as exploring with different fabrics, Jess and I wanted to extend our sampling to use a variety of different materials including woods, plastics and metals. We will experiment using different fabric manipulation methods ad incorporate these different materials into the processes we use. We will also be creating a print which consists of at least two different colours. We will spend around 1 month constantly sketchbooking, gathering and noting down our ideas and then spend the rest of the time developing and creating the garments.
Section four :
To keep track of our progress through the project Jess and I will be documenting our work in our sketchbooks, but also communicate our ideas on a collaborative blog. We will keep track of meetings that we have and post minutes and any other ideas that we come up with outside of college onto the blog. Throughout the project Jess and I will also be going through each others sketchbooks and noting down what we think about each others work - What ideas we like, or what ideas inspire us.
Beautiful writing my love.
